MILLERSBURG -- Projects are in the works that will extend the Holmes County Trail from Fredericksburg to Brinkhaven, a countywide span that will stretch 29 miles when complete. The trail currently encompasses 15 miles from Fredericksburg to Killbuck. In steps being taken to realize a Rails-to-Trails goal of creating a trail system that connects Lake Erie with the Ohio River, construction is scheduled to begin on the Phase 5 project to link Brinkhaven to Killbuck. "Phase 5 is basically everything that is left," said Holmes County Park District Director Jen Halverson. "Phase A is the tunnel under (U.S. Route) 62, down by the Knox County line, that will be our next construction project. All going well, we hope to do that this construction season." The project will connect the trail to the Mohican Valley Trail, well known for its Bridge of Dreams. After final design and engineering plans are approved by the Ohio Department of Transportation, construction to dig a

This Folding Bike Helmet Is an Urban Cyclist’s Dream Come True [Gizmodo]

Image
Cycling in cities is a great idea: it's quick, cheap, and you even get some exercise. But the number of people that don't wear a helmet is frankly terrifying. Maybe this folding helmet will help change that. Designed by French studio  Agency 360  in 2010, but going into production this year, this folding helmet is called Overade. According to Patrick Jouffret, the designer, who worked alongside engineer Philippe Arrouart, it offers as much protection as a standard helmet but folds up when not in use. We've seen folding helmets before, but  they've looked pretty crappy  — this one actually looks nice. [continue at Gizmodo]

Foss Tube - recyclable tire tube

Image
1. Explosion Proof: When punctured, the tube material will create an air-tight seal around the object.  It will prevent an immediate puncture and slow down air leaks, which will grant riders more time to react. It functions similarly like the automobile tubeless system. 2. Light-Weight: The material density of FOSS tube is 0.88 g/cc, compared to ordinary tubes which are 1.3 g/cc on average, that makes FOSS tube 30% lighter than the others. 3. Environmentally Friendly Material: Made from Thermoplastic Elastomer compound (TPE), an un-vulcanized rubber, FOSS tube can easily be recycled with other TPE products in order to reduce pollution from our planet. 4. Easy to Repair: It’s very easy to mend a puncture by using FOSS patch (self-sticking).  Just wipe dirt off tube surface, and tape a patch on the puncture.  It takes only a few seconds.  No glue is needed. 5. Awards: (1)       Winner of iF Material Award 2010 (2)       Champion of Wheel Set Group, Taiwan Innobi
