Completion of a $2.6 million rerouting of a popular trail in northern Summit County has been delayed again.
Commissioners of Metro Parks, Serving Summit County, learned Friday that rerouting the Bike & Hike Trail near Brandywine Falls won’t be finished until at least mid-June.
The trail bridge over Interstate 271 near the border of Northfield Center and Sagamore Hills Township will be delivered in five sections, starting in early May, park planner Mark Wilkerson said.
It will be assembled on site, then lifted into place by a crane. A concrete deck and approaches then will be built.
The news of the latest delay came this week from the Ohio Department of Transportation, which is handling the trail bridge, Wilkerson said.
Last November, the state agency said the 300-foot-long bridge was being delayed because a contractor had used the wrong steel and the bridge had to be rebuilt.
The initial plan called for installation last December.
