  2. Ride with traffic, do not pass automobiles in your lane on the right
  3. Keep your eyes and mind on the road, do not be a distracted bicyclist
  4. Wear a properly fitting helmet, even on the shortest of rides
  5. Do not ride on sidewalks (Under City of Columbus Code, only young children are permitted to ride on sidewalks)
  6. Keep your bike in working order
  7. Use proper hand signals prior to turning or slowing to stop
  8. Ride single file or no more than two abreast

  10. Be visible:  Wear bright clothing, use a bicycle headlight and a tail light at night and in rain or other inclement weather

For Motorists

  1. Remember, bicyclists by law belong on the road and have the same right-of-way rights as motorists
  2. Keep your eyes and mind on the road, do not be a distracted motorist
  3. Pass with care, allowing at least three feet between you and the bicyclist
  4. When making a left turn, yield to oncoming bikes
  5. Before making a right turn, check over your right shoulder for bicycles approaching to your right
  6. Remember:  By law, bicyclists may move to the center of the lane to avoid road hazards or due to the narrowness of the lane.  Bicyclists may change lanes when making a left turn, passing parked vehicles or slower moving vehicles and moving left out of a right turn-only lane to proceed straight through an intersection.
  7. Look for approaching bicyclists before opening you car doors
  8. Don’t blast your horn when approaching bicyclists
  9. Wait to pass if there is oncoming traffic or your view of oncoming traffic is obstructed
  10. When pulling out of a driveway, watch for and yield to bicyclists as you would with any approaching automobile
