More Info | Deadline to submit work: April 23, 2011 Exhibition of work: May 6th, 7-10pm at Junctionview Papergirl art paper route: May 7th at Noon, Meet at Junctionview with your bicycle! Artwork may be dropped off to Paradise Garage in the Short North, or during other drop off times as posted at www.artilleryohio.com Papergirl is essentially an art paper route. Paper Girl is a show, an urban action (the distribution of the rolls of art), a bicycle workshop and a party. In a nutshell it is: participatory, analog, non-commercial and impulsive. Anyone can participate, you can submit art work and/or help distribute. Papergirl is distributed like a newspaper, but consists of original artwork rolled in a tube. You submit artwork in person or via mail, we have a show, we roll the artwork in to tubes, we get together on our bicycles to distribute the work around town to anyone. The work is not for sale, it is given to the public by chance for free. It is intended to take art distribution out of the galleries and into the streets, via direct delivery to the public in the style of the American paperboy. Papergirl started in 2006 started in Berlin by Aisha Ronniger. Since then it has spread to many different cities around the world. Check out the Papergirl World Blog to learn more! To learn all the details about what Papergirl is, how you submit work, how you can be involved visit: http://artilleryohio.com/w |

Course:
This is going to be a mean one, Folks! This course will take you over dirt and paved "State Roads" around Monongalia County in Northern West Virginia and Western PA. Finish times could be 6 plus hours for some riders. Road conditions may include missing bridges, car-sized potholes, gravel, mud, black top, cow paths, and maybe a piece of road kill or two, 100% of which are WV State Roads. That's what we call good riding! Leave your expensive Flux-Capacitors and fancy wheels at home and maybe bring the cross bike. It might be the best tool for the job, but bring whatever you think is best for you. However, if you show up with Zipps on your road bike we may laugh and point at you. This race course has just about everything a cyclist says they want when they're talking it up with their buddies. Now let us see ya ride it! Course will have fully stocked aid stations along the way. Sag support will be provided.
"I would not run smaller than a 30mm tyre. If you run a 28 you will be severely limited on the downhills. They needn't be knobby (for the current conditions) but you will need the volume. I don't think tubulars would be very smart either. DO NOT WEAR ROAD SHOES FOR THIS EVENT!"
Aid Stations: Total of three, (at mile 19, 38 and 58) will be stocked with the following items.
Water
Heed
Hammer Gels
Hammer Electrolyte Pills
Cookies
Bananas
M&Ms
Pretzels

Is Columbus a Bike City?
Is Columbus doing enough to promote cycling as an alternative form of transportation? Is Columbus doing enough to make you feel safe riding your bike to and from work, the store or just around town? Is there enough infrastructure to get you to where you want to go and back? What works? What doesn't work? What would YOU like to see happen...faster? Discuss.

The economic case for on-street bike parking [via Grist]
BY ELLY BLUE
11 APR 2011 10:34
This is the fourth column in a series focusing on the economics of bicycling.
Bicycling and driving have one thing in common that is almost universally frustrating, time consuming, friction causing, and potentially expensive.
Parking.
No matter how seamless your ride across town, no matter how well-timed the traffic lights or low-conflict the bike lanes, it's all pointless if when you arrive at work, or the store, or the music venue or party, and have nowhere to put your ride.
Outlier Workwear Pants Iteration Two [Ride em to work]
Hardwearing, comfortable, tough and honest. A rugged pant designed to work (and look good working) in a wide variety of situations.
The Workwear Pants are made with our Doubleweave Canvas, the strongest and most durable of our fabrics. It's got a Cordora grade nylon exterior, yet the interior is brushed soft with a great breathability making it incredibly comfortable. The canvas face drapes well and has a great dullness. That basically means this is a really good looking fabric, you can pull it off in the office, yet it performs well enough to take to the backcountry.
Wear these 360 days a year. Day in and day out they hold up strong and stay surprisingly clean. The gusseted crotch, curved waistband and parabolic sideseam ensure they move as well as they fit. The cut is true to size and a medium lean in the leg. If you own a pair of iteration one Workwears please note that this version fits about a half size smaller and has a shorter crotch rise. When first putting on the pants, you'll notice that they relax out nearly half a size over the course of an hour or so to the perfect fit.
