The Long Street Tour's “Bike the C-Bus” is a fun way to get fit and check out a few of the neighborhoods in and around Columbus. Experience segments of the King Lincoln District, Woodland Park, Olde Town East, Downtown, Short North Arts District, Italian Village, Harrison West, Victorian Village, Arena District, Franklinton, Brewery District and German Village. The entire ride will cover approximately 30 miles over 4 segments and will feature stops that highlight change that is occurring in our neighborhoods. Each stop will be sponsored by businesses and community groups and provide snacks, drinks and entertainment for the riders. The ride is configured to allow cyclists to complete segments if they do not feel comfortable riding the entire route. The registration fee ($25 before August 1, 2011, $30 after) includes an official 2011 “Long Street Tour” t-shirt (if you register by August 1) and wristband along with drinks and food at designated rest stops, plus a free lunch at the...

The 27th Annual Dirty Dozen up Pittsburgh's 13 steepest hills will be held on Saturday, November 28th at 10am. Anticipating another large crowd this year, please show up as early as 8-9am to start registration early. Meet at the Washington Boulevard Track (Where the ACA holds weekly criterium races in the summer). I recommend a low gear of 39x27. The route is 50 miles, but will take at least 5 hours because we go neutral between the hills, and there are 3-4 stops atop hills where I offer snacks and drinks. New this year will be t-shirts handed out at registration. Again this year, there will be a 3 place prize list for women riders, but they need to ride up EVERY HILL to be eligible. The breakdown will be: 1st woman - $150 2nd woman - $100 3rd woman - $ 50 Register the day of the event, and there is a $15 entry fee. Studio 35 was the start/finish for the "Night of a Thousand Tacos" ride. We had about 30 riders, and two scooters for escort. I want to thank the scooter riders because they helped shepherd us through some high traffic areas with ease. This was a cruise style ride, so we didn't have any high speed riding or people trying to show off by riding out front. The route took us north on Indianola, then over Cooke and Ferris to Cleveland. We stopped at 4 trucks along the route. All the trucks were great for staying open late and providing special deals for the cyclists. But, I must say that Taco Nazo went all out for us. Free drinks, free cake and 65 cent tacos. We topped it off with a cold Modelo. Don Pedros, the final truck had a little slower service than the first three. It is located out in front of Garden Inn so we ventured in to use the facilities and have a mas(s) tequila shot (or whiskey). Got the latest Boneshaker Almanac in the mail yesterday and much to my surprise and delight they interview Octopus Caps.

London, Ohio of course. After I posted the information about the trailhead for the Prairie Grass Trail, I decided to investigate myself. I started at High and Broad and rode straight out to West Jefferson. Once in West Jefferson look for "bike route" signs. The route heads south and turns at Wilson Road and ultimately ends at the trailhead. It took me exactly 1 hour and 30 minutes to reach the trail. The Prairie Grass Trailhead has parking and bathroom facilities. It is paved and marked with mileage which is a nice touch. Typical fare for Ohio trails, a combination of cornfields and residential areas with a couple of road crossings. From downtown to London is roughly 27 miles. I stopped and sat at the trailhead on the way back through. Then headed north back to Broad and back to town. No incidents with autos except for an errant honk. Still waiting for the elusive visit from a member of the biking community in Montana. Anywhere in Montana would be good. Hawaii had 2 visits. Even Alaska has some visits - 9 total this past month. Go figure. And I didn't even have any Palin material on my site.

Cold and clear. It was moony out. Very bright. 33 degrees to start. We had about 20 people, including Casey at the start. Evan wanted to lead so we headed south. For some reason, whether by choice (some went to bike polo), or just missing the fact that people left the launch pad we lost half the group before the turn at 12th? We crossed Summit and 4th and went south to 5th. We then proceeded due east as far as possible to Hamilton. Left onto Hamilton and then left onto Sawyer. Sawyer is a connector road that takes you to the airport terminal from the east. It also is a rollercoaster ride underneath the runway connectors. We stopped to debate if we should ride through the terminal, nixed it and headed west. We turned onto E 17th street (although that may not be the name now with the road realignment) and popped out on Johnstown and then onto Cassady. Cassady to Airport. Airport down to Nelson.
