“Don’t steer!” some spectators in the Lower East Side bar shouted.
As he struggled to steady himself, a large red arrow spun behind him, tracking his progress on a huge clock face. Then his tire touched the edge of the spinning red rollers, and for a moment it seemed he would be the first crash of the night during this off-season tradition, in which local and elite cyclists compete in stationary races held in various New York bars.
