It is our desire that you have an enjoyable outing on you r upcoming visit to the Holmes County Trail and that you find our web-site useful in planning your trip to our unique Trail. The dream o f a multipurpose recreation trail through Holmes County was born shortly after the flood of 1969 ended the active use of the railroad in Holmes County. The railroad connected Holmes County with major cities in Ohio. People and goods regularly traveled the tracks on their way to destinations throughout the county. During W.W. Oh, the horror, no bikes are allowed on the roads in Black Hawk Colorado. Subject: recent bicycle ban on all roads in black hawk, co Yesterday I rode with team evergreen up the the central city parkway to Black Hawk and 7 of us got stopped by the police in black hawk at the post office/coffee shop at our re-group point. Black hawk passed an ordinance (attached) last July that just went into effect in the last 2 weeks that BANS BICYCLES ON ALL ROADS in black hawk!! http://www.cityofblackhawk.org/ . The only road through BH that you can ride a bike is 119, but there are no roads you can ride on from central city parkway to get to 119 or 119 to central city parkway! They didn't see us ride our bikes, so no tickets. Police told us that they "have been instructed not to give warnings". So when you hit the city limit, you have to dismount and walk your bike about a mile down the steep hill to get to 119...

WOSU radio news featured a story this morning about bicycling advocates working to get more questions about cycling on the State of Ohio Drivers' License Examination. Local League of American Bicyclists Cycling Instructor Patricia Kovacs was interviewed by WOSU's Mandie Trimble for the story. Kovacs, many of you may recall, is the advocate whose efforts resulted in Columbus being named a League Bike-Friendly City two years ago. She is also an Ohio Bike Federation board member. read more...

For all those who do not want to go cycling without their mobile phones, GPS, MP3 players and other electronic devices and do not have access to a stationary charging station comes the "bike mobile" E-WERK. If the compact device is connected to the hub dynamo, the electricity generated by the cyclist's muscle power does not have to be used by only the lighting fixtures but can alternatively be processed by E-WERK. The energy is given off via two included connection cables that tinkerers can equip with plugs suited to their individual applications. Alternatively, the user employs an also included USB cable - the standard connection par excellence that offers compatibility with a wide range of devices - making sure that his electronic equipment does not run out of power while he is on the way. A small stylus that is housed at the bottom of E-WERK is used for adjusting two turning knobs controlling voltage (2.8 to 13.3 V) and current (0.1 to 1,5 A) quickly and variably for a...

Nokia unveiled on Thursday a bicycle-powered phone charger. The Nokia Bicycle Charger Kit, which can be attached to any bicycle, powers up from the pedaling motion of the bike's rider. A dynamo--the electricity generator--is powered by the front bicycle wheel as a rider pedals and transfers electricity to a charger attached to the handlebar, which a phone plugs into. "To begin charging, a cyclist needs to travel around six kilometers per hour (four miles per hour), and while charging times will vary depending on battery model, a 10-minute journey at 10 kilometers per hour (six miles per hour) produces around 28 minutes of talk time or 37 hours of standby time. The faster you ride, the more battery life you generate," Nokia said in a statement. The charger can be used to power any Nokia phone with a 2mm power jack, according to Nokia. more...

Despite accidents, bicycling getting safer Increase in riders may heighten awareness Monday, May 31, 2010 02:50 AM BY BILL BUSH THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH Last summer, Greg Yoakum was riding his bike about 25 mph through Hilliard when a car traveling the opposite direction turned left across his path, sending him crashing into the windshield and then onto the road. He was one of the 269 bicycle-vehicle crash victims in Franklin County in 2009. His right arm had a cut 8 inches long and 3 inches wide. He injured his lower back and sustained a 4-inch contusion on his right leg. He left the hospital using a walker, which he needed for a few days. "I completely went up onto her windshield, smashed her windshield, and was taken by ambulance to the hospital," said Yoakum, 37. continue...
