Columbus Rides Bikes!

White Castle Columbus Slide - Gastric Century Start Time: Monday May 26th 6PM - (Chance of thunderstorms, but temps in the 60's) Start Location: 15th and High Street Purpose: To ride to all 13 White Castle Restaurant locations in Columbus within the beltway. Due to time constrains we felt dropping the 6 locations outside the beltway would be beneficial to our beltline. Please bring a digital camera or cell phone with camera. I may have people photograph locations as proof. Prizes (courtesy of Genuine Innovations ) will be handed out. See map below and tentative route further down page. To be fair when awarding prizes I think it makes sense that we all ride as a group to each of the locations. This is a fun ride and I have not decided how we will hand out prizes yet, so we may have prizes for most burgers eaten at one stop or over the whole evening. Three "Ghost Bikes" have appeared at sites where cyclists were killed by motorized vehicles. The appearance of these GHOST BIKES on the eve of the Ride of Silence, are a visual reminder of the carnage that cyclists face while trying to maintain their rightful place on the public roadways. It rained. I am sick of riding in the rain. Therefore, I did not ride. Plus, I was in a bad mood. And not because I didn't get to ride in the rain.

Bike the C-Bus Bicycle Tour The Long Street Tour's “Bike the C-Bus” is a fun way to get fit and check out a few of the neighborhoods in and around Columbus, while riding along side Mayor Michael B. Coleman. Experience segments of the King Lincoln District, Downtown, Short North Arts District, Italian Village, University District, Harrison West, Victorian Village, Arena District, Franklinton, Brewery District and German Village. The entire ride will cover approximately 30 miles and will feature stops that highlight change that is occurring in our neighborhoods. Each stop will be sponsored by businesses and community groups and provide snacks, drinks and entertainment for the riders. The ride is configured to allow cyclists to complete segments if they do not feel comfortable riding the entire route. I trekked over to Pittsburgh to ride Pedal Pittsburgh. 58 miles through the scenic and challenging hills. We averaged 11mph, but much of the ride is either climbing or riding through stop and go traffic on city streets. We started at Station Square and there were not many people. I don't think more than a few hundred people showed up. because it was cold, rainy and gloomy. First 10 miles or so it rained pretty steady. Some highlights of the ride... Riding downhill in a downpour with loose brakes and steel rims (Not me!) Jonny and his clipless pedals sticking or unsticking. Being chastised by a policewoman for not yielding to oncoming traffic The rain - shoes filled with water Brakes being repaired at Children's Museum stop (Not me!) The many climbs to the parks Mt. We rode north from campus and turned west. We soon realized that we needed to have a slower pace for Bonny (correct me if I am wrong). We turned north and then south back on High. At 15th and High she headed back north to Clintonville. We headed south for a while and turned east. We ended up at the Crew Stadium for sprint races. I gave out a Genuine Innovations Proflate 16 to the winner, Evan (gain, correct me if I am wrong). We headed north along I-71 and turned west onto Indianola. We took Cooke down to High. Down High Street to Broadway and back to Indianola. We headed down Walhalla. Jeremy flatted both tires after running through two potholes. I headed down High towards the bar and headed back to my car. I rode 32 miles.

Quick numbers and tidbits Saturday 114 miles - Averaged 18mph. Sunny with a tailwind. Combined weekend mileage - 225 miles - Averaged 16mph. It rained a lot on Sunday. We had tailwind on Saturday and mixed winds on Sunday. Great organized ride. - A lot of support is needed for a ride of this magnitude. We ate at the Portsmouth brewpub. Beer was OK. Food was not that great. Make sure to put your bags on the correct truck so that your bags make it to the correct dropoff. I got to camp in a tent for the first time in my life. We stayed in the field next to the stadium. Met an entire 5 person family, The Ruffs, riding on one bike. 4 person bike with a trailer for the 5th. We passed an Xtracycle with extended rear end and panniers.
