Columbus highlighted on CNN

(Budget Travel) -- Tens of thousands of people head to Columbus every fall during Ohio State's football season. I'm as much a road-trip loving football fan as the next guy, but I actually never thought the Ohio capital was as charming as say Madison, Wisconsin, or Ann Arbor, Michigan. I obviously wasn't looking very hard. With a revamped downtown and a booming population (it surpassed Cleveland in size in the 1980s), the city has restyled itself from a college town into a fairly happening urban center. The full story...

White Castle Hamburger Rally - Monday May 26 6PM

Image
White Castle Columbus Slide - Gastric Century Start Time: Monday May 26th 6PM - (Chance of thunderstorms, but temps in the 60's) Start Location: 15th and High Street Purpose: To ride to all 13 White Castle Restaurant locations in Columbus within the beltway. Due to time constrains we felt dropping the 6 locations outside the beltway would be beneficial to our beltline. Please bring a digital camera or cell phone with camera. I may have people photograph locations as proof. Prizes (courtesy of Genuine Innovations ) will be handed out. See map below and tentative route further down page. To be fair when awarding prizes I think it makes sense that we all ride as a group to each of the locations. This is a fun ride and I have not decided how we will hand out prizes yet, so we may have prizes for most burgers eaten at one stop or over the whole evening. Please stay tuned and I will post more info when available. View Larger Map 2725 N. High St. Columbus, OH , 43202 354...

Bicycle Film Festival - Not coming to Columbus

Get there if you can. If not, here is the site... About BFF The Bicycle Film Festival celebrates the bicycle. We are into all styles of bikes and biking. If you can name it-Tall Bike Jousting, Track Bikes, BMX, Alleycats, Critical Mass, Bike Polo, Cycling to Recumbents- we've probably either ridden or screened it. What better way to celebrate these lifestyles than through art, film, music and performance? We bring together all aspects of bicycling together to advocate its ability to transport us in many ways. Ultimately the Fest is about having a good time. We have been fortunate enough to include works of established artists such as Jorgen Leth, Mike Mills, Jonas Mekas, Blonde Redhead, Swoon and Michel Gondry among others as part of our programming. Many of the artists who have participated in the Bike Film Fest such as Nick Golebiewski, the Neistat Brothers and Lucas Brunelle are gaining more and more re-cognition for their work. Sign up for the email list or just come out and en...

5/19/2008 Ride Report

It rained. I am sick of riding in the rain. Therefore, I did not ride. Plus, I was in a bad mood. And not because I didn't get to ride in the rain.

Pedal Pittsburgh 2008 Ride Report

I trekked over to Pittsburgh to ride Pedal Pittsburgh. 58 miles through the scenic and challenging hills. We averaged 11mph, but much of the ride is either climbing or riding through stop and go traffic on city streets. We started at Station Square and there were not many people. I don't think more than a few hundred people showed up. because it was cold, rainy and gloomy. First 10 miles or so it rained pretty steady. Some highlights of the ride... Riding downhill in a downpour with loose brakes and steel rims (Not me!) Jonny and his clipless pedals sticking or unsticking. Being chastised by a policewoman for not yielding to oncoming traffic The rain - shoes filled with water Brakes being repaired at Children's Museum stop (Not me!) The many climbs to the parks Mt. Washington overlooks We passed some really cool architecture and neighborhoods. Hot Metal Pedestrian Bridge East Allegheny Commons North Side and the Stadiums Children's Museum Rialto Street - pa...
